1. ‘Care through Prayer’ Please use this new leaflet as a guide for your prayers. The long-term sick and infirm will continue to be named in ‘Care through Prayer’ so that we can pray for them. Some of these people may no longer appear in this weekly noticesheet or have their names read out during intercessions. No changes will be made without discussion with those involved.

2. Michael Grandey, our new curate, is to be ordained deacon on Sunday 5th July in York Minster. There are 16 tickets available for people from St Mary’s and St Nicholas. If you would like to go please speak to Bev or Nigel as soon as possible.
|
3. There are two vacancies for next year’s pilgrimage to Oberammergau. This is an 8 night excursion starting on 31st August. If anyone is interested please contact Rev’d Ron Smith as soon as possible.
|
4. On Thursday 9th July at 8.00 pm the Aroma Coffee Shop is hosting ‘An Evening with Jeremy Piercy’. Jeremy is the director of Shared Earth and a leading Fair-Trade Movement campaigner. Tickets are £2.50 (to include light refreshments) and can be obtained from Rev’d Cameron Stirk (Tel: 768326) or from Aroma. There are only 48 tickets so get yours now to avoid disappointment.

5. There will be a labyrinth (and refreshments) on Sunday 19th July from 1.00 pm until 5.00 pm at
17 Corner Close, Wigginton, home of Fiona and Ian Evans. More details of what a labyrinth is and how it works will appear in July’s edition of “Talkabout”.
Some Joseph Rowntree pupils are going to Kenya in July 2010 with Camps International and as part of their fund raising for this will be providing tea, coffee and cakes, as well as a raffle. Please support them.

6. Also in support of Joseph Rowntree’s Kenya expedition there will be a Summer Family Barbeque at St Nicholas Church on Saturday 5th September from 6.00 pm onwards. (Note change of date from last week’s notice). Tickets will be £3 per person or £10 per family. Contact Ruth Evans for tickets. 7. On Monday 6th July 7.45 – 9.45 pm Aroma Coffee shop will be hosting a free ‘Transition Workshop’ for any parent whose child is starting at secondary school in September. For further information contact Lucy Stirk on 768326.

2. Thank you to those who supported WaterAid’s “Jars of Change” campaign. The sum of £66.00 was collected.

4. Can you tell a plant from a weed? Pauson is tidying the churchyard on Mondays and Tuesdays and one of his tasks is weeding. The trouble is, he doesn’t know what to uproot and what to leave! If you could spare some time to chat to him and offer some guidance (perhaps even lend a hand) everyone will benefit, except, perhaps, the weeds!

The labyrinth provides a meditative pathway and the physical journey from the edge of the circle to the centre becomes a spiritual journey. Prayers can be offered as one travels (prayer suggestions will be provided). Each ‘pilgrim’ can travel at their own speed. Do come and find out the difference between a maze and a labyrinth.

1. The 10.15 am service today is Brian Gant’s last at St Mary’s before his retirement. We would like to say “thank you” to him for his ministry here and wish him and Diana a very happy and healthy retirement.

2. Church Groups

4. There is a York Diocese Reader Enquiry Day at St Nicholas Wigginton on Saturday 4th July 10.30 am – 12.30 pm. This is an informal event for anyone who wishes to find out more about being a Reader in the Church (what Readers do, selection, training etc.). You can go for the whole two hours or drop in for as long as you wish.

5. Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church has invited Rev’d Richard Andrew (York St John University and York Institute) to lead three evenings on the theme of being a missionary minded church, using the book “Journeying Out” by Ann Morisy. The dates are Tuesdays 16th, 23rd and 30th June at
8.00 pm. All are welcome to attend.

2. Christian Aid Week 2009
Many thanks to all who worked for this week. St Mary’s collected £1,602.43. I am very grateful to June Jaques who has now taken over as St Mary’s representative and she will organise next year’s collection. Anne Wright.

3. Please remember that the Mothers’ Union are collecting postcards to raise money for the church in Sudan. If you have any please give them to Maureen Kent. Thank you. (You may be interested to know that in the year since last June £13,000 has been raised for the church in Sudan.)

1. Fairtrade Breakfast next Sunday (31st May) 8.45 am – 10.00 am in St Mary’s Church Hall.
Our first breakfast was so popular that we are running another one. £2.50 will give you the chance to try a fair-trade breakfast, including cereals, spreads, tea, coffee and juice. The times have been set so that you can come after the 8.00 am service or before the 10.15 am service. There will also be a fair-trade stall. Any profit will go to help provide seating for the church in Malawi where Bev was working.

2. The CMS Summer Meeting will again be held at the Quiet Garden, Westfield Farm, Sheriff Hutton, on Monday 8th June 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm. There will be a ‘Bring and Share’ supper followed by a talk about Rwanda. For details please see the poster at the back of church or speak to Margaret Carden. If you wish to go please contact Margaret before 2nd June.

3. Please bring your contributions to WaterAid’s “Jars of Change” campaign next Sunday (31st May) or, if you are away, the following Sunday at the latest. Thank you.

4. A big “thank you” to everyone who supported the Beetle Drive and helped to raise £132 for the Pauson Project. Mpabukire Pauson Joshua arrives in Haxby on Thursday (28th May) and will be helping at St Mary’s and in the community from Sunday 31st May until 15th July.

6. Taste and See 2009 will take place on Saturday 13th June. This is an ecumenical day of ‘bite-sized spirituality’ giving participants the opportunity to experience different types of prayer and worship. The day is being organized by CORE (York City Centre Churches Care and Development Trust) and offers a choice of 16 workshops to choose from. The day starts in the Minster at 9.30 am and ends at
4.00 pm after a final act of worship in All Saints Pavement. The cost for the day is £15. For details and booking form Tel: 619489 or look on the website www.tasteandseeyork.org

7. On Bank Holiday Monday (25th May) starting at 12 noon there is a Family Fun afternoon at Oaken Grove Community Centre. There will be children’s games, table top sale, tug of war, wellie throwing and much more. Do go along and support our local Community Centre.

1. .Christian Aid Week 10th – 16th May
New and regular street collectors are needed. There are still eight streets not covered, so please contact Anne Wright or June Jacques if you can help. Thanks to those who have already offered to collect. Envelopes will be in church from Wednesday 6th May, but please only deliver and collect during Christian Aid Week itself.
There will be a coffee morning at the Methodist Church Hall on Saturday 9th May. St Mary’s will have a grocery stall. Please leave contributions for this in the box at the back of church or give them to Anne Wright. Contributions are URGENTLY needed as up to now there are NONE!

1. St Mary’s annual Plant Sale will be held on Saturday 2nd May between 10.00 am and 12 noon, in the church hall. Entrance 50p to include tea or coffee. Do come and see what is on offer and if you would like to contribute plants for sale, they would be welcome on Friday evening between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm. If you need help getting plants to the hall or have any queries, please cotact Carolyn Wood or Noreen Bartram. Let’s make it possible to tell Liz and Alan Pemberton that even without them we ran a successful sale!

1. ST MARY’S SPRING FAIR Saturday 25th April.
Those with stalls in the church or hall will be able to set up on Friday between 2.00 pm and
5.00 pm or on Saturday from 8.00 am. Nigel will be co-ordinating on Friday so please let him know if you will be coming to set up and at what time, so he can arrange to have tables up for you.
Items are still needed for the stalls as detailed in last week’s noticesheet.

2. Cakes! Please try and do some baking for the cake stall at the Spring Fair next Saturday 25th April. Cakes may be left in the hall on Friday afternoon (24th April) or brought on the day. Many thanks.
|
3. Rowan Williams has a pair. Get your Holy Socks at the Spring Fair, 25th April. For every pair you buy £1.25 goes to St Mary’s Church. Let’s see everyone buying a pair of holy Socks.
|
4. The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held after the 10.15 am service next Sunday (26th April). The agenda, minutes of the last meeting and reports are available now in church by the book trolley. Please take copies home with you, read them and bring them to the meeting with you.
|
5. Churches Together have agreed to support WaterAid’s 2009 Jars of Change campaign between Easter and Pentecost. Jars are available now to be returned on 31st May.

6. Coffee Rota. Five more volunteers are required to help with coffee after the 10.15 am service. You would be “on duty” only about four or five times a year. If you can help or want to know more please see Diane Hoyle as soon as possible.
