Getting
Married
When Anglicans are married they come to church to be blessed
by God and
to make a public commitment to each other in the sight of the
whole community. This is Holy Matrimony. The couple are blessed by God and
may be certain that the people of God will support
them throughout their life together.
If you are thinking of getting
married here at St Mary's Church, the first thing you will
need to do is contact Revd Brian
Gant. He will arrange a meeting
with the both of you, during which he will explain the process
involved and the commitment you will need
as a couple.
This informal 'chat' gives you plenty of opportunity
to raise questions or discuss any concerns that you may have
together about holy matromony.
Baptism
In Holy Baptism we take water as the outward sign of God's gift
to us of the Holy Spirit.
In Holy Baptism we become members of the community of believers,
which the New Testament calls the Body of Christ.
The person to be baptised (or their Godparents for
them) makes a commitment to Jesus, to live for Him
and to live in His way.
Today, for the majority of people: Baptism occurs as a baby (although
plenty of adults are Baptised each year). If you are thinking of
Baptising your child into the Anglican Church here at St. Mary's
- in the first instance please contact our Rector Revd
Brian Gant.
Music
To discuss music for weddings and funerals at St Mary's Church, Haxby John Bostock, the Organist/Director of Music would be happy to talk with you after the 10:15am Sunday service, or at home.
